The film has a brilliant storyline, and the story progresses at a good pace except for a few places after the interval. The viewer gets his answers to the questions that arise in the viewer’s mind immediately with an explanation of every particular scene.

Without giving out spoilers, the movie’s plot is about a man accused of committing three murders.  He tells the court that he doesn’t remember anything. But just fourteen hours before being sent to a psychological treatment facility, he starts recollecting the event’s details and only has four hours to prove to the jury that he is innocent.

The Marathi movie has its thrills and twists and builds the suspense that one expects from a psychological thriller. Although Nirmiti Sawant and Mohan Agashe have few lines and a lesser screen presence, they stand out in a lawyer and judge’s roles, respectively. Renuka Shahane delivers well as a psychologist, despite having no dialogues until towards the end. Overall, it is an excellent psychological thriller that binds the user from start to end.

Anvatt is a Marathi psychological thriller film directed by Gajjendra Ahirey, set in the 1970s. This gripping paranormal tale stars Makarand Anaspure, Adinath Kothare, Kishore Kadam, Urmila Kanetkar, Bhargavi Chirmuley, Vibhawari Deshpande, Anushri Junnerkar, and Nayana Mukke and has been shot in Konkan.

It is the story of a doctor who, together with his archaeologist wife, embarks on a journey to treat residents of a faraway village devoid of all the modern amenities of city life. The story then progresses to how they encounter unforeseen incidents that threaten their existence. The film’s music has been directed by Pt. Hridaynath Mangeshkar and arranged by Shankar- Ehsan-Loy and Sachin Jambekar. The songs have been sung by Shankar Mahadevan, Vibhavari Apte, and Sapna Pathak. The movie has all the exciting elements of a psychological thriller and is backed by splendid camera work and music, which makes it a must-watch movie.

  1. Kanika

Directed by Pushkar Manohar, this heartfelt Marathi movie covers the entire gamut of emotions of joy, tears, excitement, and ebullience. The movie has the thrill of horror, emotional suffering in the middle and ends with a satisfactory smile. Kanika is a story of a girl who inflicts suffering and her spirit returns back.

The subject of female infanticide has been combined with the horror genre in the movie, where a doctor and his colleagues who use sex-determination testing for unethical ends face payback from a supernatural victim who is seeking vengeance. Each actor has done exceptional to their character, and one can easily connect, especially the character of Kanika’s mother.

The little girl, as Kanika, steals the viewer’s heart. The lead actor’s performance is intense and it’s memorable more because most of it is internal and non-verbal. His devastated expression of anguish and grief is haunting. The movie depicts how knowledge can do wonders when used in a constructive way and how it can be lethal when used for destructive or selfish motives. The star cast includes Sharad Ponkshe, Chaitrali Gupte, Smita Shewale, Ananda Karekar, Kamlakar Satpute, and Phalguni Rajni and the story is credited to Tejas Marathe & Kalyani Mitragotri.

  1. Take Care Good Night

Take Care Good Night is the directorial debut of Girish Joshi, which talks on this socially important topic of cyber-crimes that is raging across today. The thrilling movie shows how easy it is to hack into someone’s personal information and siphon of data or money.  It attempts to spread awareness about cyber-crime, where the main lead recalls his story. The plot revolves around Sachin Khedekar, who takes his family for a two-week vacation to Europe after taking VRS and finds that somebody has stolen 50 lakhs from his Bank Account. Shell shocked and completely shattered, he takes the help of cybercrime officer Mahesh Manjrekar to solve the case.

The screenplay keeps one engaged throughout the movie and in the end, manages to create awareness about cyber-crimes for the people who should not fall for it. Acting-wise, Sachin Khedekar manages to portray the cyber-crime victim extremely well and Mahesh Manjrekar is brilliant with his comic timing and witty one-liners.  It’s a good techno-thriller involving family relations with important lessons for the current online world.

  1. Karma Chakra

Directed by B. Sudhakar Sudarshan Rao and Milind Rokade, Karma Chakra is a Marathi horror film that traces the journey of five best friends in search of artifacts. Their search awakens their fate and a series of haunting events occur in their lives. Will these friends be able to come out of the mess? Is Karma to be blamed for all their ordeals? The plot is guided by the following principles of the wheel of Karma, which is the universal law of cause and effect. Whatever one reaps is the result of what one sows. Written by Ashok Bharat Ratnakar, the movie cast includes stars Jai Shringarpure, Eshita Shah, Tanuuj Shrivasttava, Kapil Honrao, and Komal Chandel. The movie was released in 2019.
